Venue &  Grounds

The TYTHE BARN

Amongst 500 acres of farmland and built by an order of Augustinian monks, the Barn itself dates back to the 12th century. It was part of a medieval complex, the remnants of which can be found in the lower section of the gardens.

The word 'Tythe' means 'tenth' in ancient english. A 'tythe' was a form of tax that was paid by the local people to the church. They brought a tenth of whatever they had earned or grown and left it here in this barn. After King Henry VIII's dissolution, the barn was used as part of the surrounding farm buildings to store grain at harvest time.

In 1991, owners Nick and Denise Reynolds lovingly restored the barn. Now its beam rafted roof, magnificent whitewashed hall and gallery echo not to the noise of harvest toil but to the sounds of wedding celebrations. The barn can seat 140 guests, while a permanent Granary Bar can accommodate another 60. Elegant and unique, it's the perfect setting for your wedding or special event.

THE GRANARY BAR

Newly refurbished in 2024, the Granary Bar is the perfect venue to dance and drink the night away.

The rustic design, with a sparkly finish, is in perfect keeping with the barn but with a little extra dazzle to create a fabulous party backdrop! Our home made oak bar is a true statement piece that is fully stocked with an array of alcoholic and non- alcoholic drinks to suit all guests and ages.

It really does have the wow factor, we even have cocktails on tap to get the party started!

THE GARDENS

The doors of the barn open directly on to a patio and garden, which reaches out towards the Chiltern Hills in the distance and has been redesigned by Steven Hendry, a Chelsea Gold Medal winning landscape architect. For the adults there is a cocktail and canapé lawn, while for the children there is a recreational lawn where they can run and play in complete safety. In addition, a larger marquee can be placed on the lawn to accommodate up to 250 guests.
